DAY 01: MUMBAI – REYKJAVÍK
Arrive at Mumbai international airport to board flight for Reykjavík Arrival at Keflavík International Airport and welcome by your local English spe aking guide. Private transfer to your hotel in Reykjavík.
DAY 02: REYKJAVÍK - HRAUNFOSSAR FALL - INTO THE GLACIER – ICE CAVE – HUSAFELL
After breakfast depart for Hraunfossar Waterfall which is formed by rivulets streaming over the distance of 900 metres where a lava field which flowed from an eruption of one of the volcanoes which lies under the glacier called Langjokull. After visiting Hraunfossar waterfall we will go to Langjokull to visit unique glacier which is man made known as Ice Tunnel. This is Europes second largest glacier,and takes you on a guided tour in monster trucks to the entrance of the ice tunnel, 1200 meters above sea level. During this tour we will have the rare opportunity to see normal snow turn into a different type: crust of snow, and then we see that type become glacier ice. It is an exclusive, once in a lifetime adventure, to the man-made tunnel located high on Glacier Langjökull, Europe's second largest. This 3 in 1 tour will enable you to explore AROUND, ON and WITHIN the giant, 953 km2 glaciers. Then we board the 8-wheel-drive monster truck and drive for about half an hour on the ice cap, until we reach the entrance to the ice tunnel. We will spend about 50 minutes exploring the tunnels, the crevasses, moulins (glacier mills), running water, ice layers and space between them, different types of snow and ice, and how the glacier evolves.
DAY 03: HUSAFELL – AKUREYRI
We proceed to the north of Iceland we drive to the Skagafjördur region, an area known for horse breeding and many Icelandic horses can be seen grazing in the fields of the Skagafjörður valley. As we apporach the village of Varmahlíð we make a short detour and visit the Glaumbær museum, which is one of the best preserved turf farmhouses in Iceland, located just north of Varmahlíð (included in price). Then we continue until we reach Akureyri, the major town in North Iceland. We visit the town with its beautiful church and botanical gardens, or shop at leisure.
DAY 04: AKUREYRI - MÝVATN – AKUREYRI
After breakfast depart for a day excursion to Lake Mývatn, we stop en route at the Goðafoss waterfall, the waterfall of the pagan gods. Then we continue to the Lake Mývatn area where we spend the day exploring the wonders around the lake, which is one of Iceland's most interesting regions with fantastic volcanic formations, geothermal activity and the lake itself, teeming with bird life, particularly ducks. We take a walk at the Dimmuborgir lava formations and also a look at the Skutustadir pseudocraters. We visit the amazing boiling mud pools and steam vents of Námaskard, and then the Krafla area, where a series of volcanic eruptions took place from 1975-1984. Towards the end of the tour we visit the beautiful Mývatn Nature Baths for a relaxing geothermal bath in a stunning natural lagoon setting return back to Akureyri.
DAY 05: AKUREYRI - REYKJAVIK – VIK
After breakfast check out & depart for domestic flight from Akureyri to Reykjavík. Then we start our tour of Iceland’s magnificent south coast with its beautiful waterfalls, fabulous black sand beaches and views of majestic glaciers. As we travel along the south coast we stop at very popular falls where very popular song Gerva of Shahrukh khan and Kajol from DIlwale movie is shoot, this fall is known as Seljalandsfoss. a waterfall special not only for its beauty but also because it is possible to walk behind it and through to the other side. Next we head to Þorvaldseyri Farm for a visit to the Iceland Erupts! Visitor Center where you can see firsthand how the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull volcano 2010 affected the area. A short film portrays the spectacular natural event, and the hectic times and incredible challenges met by the family farm of Porvaldseyri. Next we visit Skógar where you will see the powerful Skógafoss Waterfall, one of the highest in Iceland. In Skógar you will also find an interesting folk museum where you can learn about how Icelanders lived in past centuries. From Skógar we will take a super-jeep tour to Sólheimasandur where we will see a plain wreck of a DC-3 belonging to the US Navy that ran out of fuel and crashed on the sand in 1973, and is still located at the very same spot. This area has become a very popular
location for movie makers and can only be reached in 4x4 vehicles. After our visit to Sólheimasandur we continue to Reynisfjara, one of Iceland’s most famous black sand beaches, where we will take a refreshing walk and then to
Vík village, famous for the Reynisdrangar pillars rising from the shore. Overnight at VIK.
DAY 6: VIK - SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK – JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIER LAGOON – VIK
After breakfast, we start with a drive across the Mýrdalssandur plains and the vast Eldhraun lava field to Kirkjubaejarklaustur, a small village located in a charming setting. Then we drive across the black sand plain Skeiðarársandur before arriving in Skaftafell. Skaftafell National Park is a magnificent area. The birch forest is like an oasis surrounded by the enormous tongues of the Vatnajökull glacier and the sands of Skeiðarárasandur. Here you can choose between many different hiking trails through the park and visit beautiful waterfalls like Svartifoss
(approx. 1 ½ hour hike – 4 km round trip). Then we continue east in order to reach the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón, one of the most spectacular sights in Iceland. Enormous icebergs constantly break off the glacier into the lagoon, melting slowly as they drift towards the sea nearby. Here we will take a 30-40 min. boat tour and walk around the lagoon to enjoy this amazing landscape. Overnight at Vík.
DAY 7 : VÍK AREA – WESTMAN ISLANDS – REKYJAVK
TODAY we visit the volcanic Westman Islands. We drive along the south coast to Landeyjahöfn harbor. From there we take a 30 minute ferry ride to Heimaey, the largest island in the Westman Island archipelago. At the Eldheimar museum of remembrance you can see some of the houses that have now been excavated after being buried in ash and lava for over 40 years We will proceed for the boat tour which gives you a look at colorful ocean caves, the newly formed volcanic island of Surtsey and other islands of Westman Islands, and the lava coastline
with its deep bird cliffs and the famous elephant. You can observe variety of seabird and occasionally whales. The
trip ends by sailing into the Cliff Cave near the harbor, where you will hear the sound of an instrumental music and enjoy the unique acoustic in this cave. In Westman Islands we will also see the unique elephant rock, a distinctive formation that can be seen in the cliffs at Heimaey. In the afternoon we head back to the mainland and drive back to our hotel for the night.
DAY 8 : REYKJAVIK – THE GOLDEN CIRCLE - REYKJAVIK
After breakfast we will proceed to the south coast and make our way to some of Iceland’s most famous sites; Geysir and Gullfoss, as we travel along the Golden Circle route. Our first stop is at the hot spring area of Geysir, one of Iceland’s most visited sights. We take a walk around the geothermal area where the hot spring Strokkur ejects its water column high into the air every 5 – 10 minutes or so and where numerous small springs boil and bubble. Then we continue to, surely the country’s most famous and beautiful waterfall. Next we make our way to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the geological wonders of the world. At Þingvellir you can see the effects of the tectonic plate movements which have opened various cracks and fissures in the earth’s crust, and it was here that the Icelandic Parliament was founded in the 10th century. After taking time to walk around in this unique landscape we drive to Reykjavík. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 9 : REYKJAVIK
In the morning we begin with a Reykjavik City Sightseeing tour where we visit the main landmarks of the city. We go to the viewing platform at Perlan, which is built on water tanks that hold the cities hot water supply. After enjoying the spectacular view over Reykjavík and its surroundings we see Höfði house where the all-important summit between former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and former U.S.S.R. Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev took place in 1986. We visit Hallgrímskirkja church, the harbor and the old town center where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi and the Town Hall, with its very interesting relief map Iceland, are situated After our exploration of the capital area we drive to the famous Blue Lagoon, passing through Hafnarfjörður, the town where the “hidden people” and humans live together in harmony. The Blue Lagoon is a unique sight where guests enjoy relaxing in warm geothermal water surrounded by magical black lava fields. DAY 10 : REYKJAVIK
After breakfast day free for you to spend at leisure. You can explore the city some more, relax, go shopping, swimming or book one of many optional activities like Swimming in Reykjavik, Whale Watching, Caving in Leidarendi, Horse Riding, Buggy Safari or Glacier Hiking & Ice Climbing - available from Reykjavík.
DAY 10 : REYKJAVIK
Late Night Depart for the Keflavik airport and board the flight to Paris (Flight Will be in Night 1 AM on day 10th ) , we will arrive Paris on Day 11 Arrive and proceed for connecting flight for Mumbai.
